Is It Better To Be Feared?

A Review of 'Bad Guys 2'
ree

I was able to see an early release of 'Bad Guys 2' before it is released in theaters this Friday. I am sharing my review of it in this blog post. Don't worry, there are no spoilers.

If you've watched the first movie, the second one starts right where the first one leaves off, with Wolf and the gang working to turn over a new leaf. No longer criminals, the group (Wolf, Shark, Webs, Snake, and Piranha) tries to become law-abiding citizens. There is only one problem - they are not given a chance to do so. They try to secure jobs, but their tarnished reputations make it impossible to do so. Everyone in the group becomes frustrated. Everyone, that is, except Snake, who seems to have not a care in the world despite how the public views him and his friends.

Despite feeling hopeless, Wolf realizes they can turn things around when he learns about a new string of robberies. He decides that he and his friends will team up with the police, the same police they had run from during their days of crime, to find out who is behind the robberies, to show the public that they are now good guys.

As they investigate the robberies, Wolf begins to struggle with his new identity. There was something that he had when he was a bad guy - respect. He was not liked, but he was feared. He once could walk down a street and everyone moved out of the way out of fear of what he might do to them. Robbing banks was a bad way of living, but it was still a living, and now he can't even get hired anywhere.

Throughout the movie, the gang meets new friends, new enemies, and "enjoys" many car chases. From Shark's impulsive decisions to Piranha's being the last to catch on to what is happening, there is enough humor to keep you entertained while feeling for Wolf's internal struggle.

On the surface, the movie is a fun, action-packed adventure about choosing between being bad or good, but under all of that, the movie is actually about power. Is power taken or earned, and how low is a person willing to go to have it?

'Bad Guys 2' is worth watching because it has more twists and turns than the first one, and even more of an unexpected but satisfying ending.
